AUCKLAND DILEMMA ACTION BY ROTARY CLUB By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, June 10. At a meeting of the Auckland Rotary Club it was decided almost unanimously to extend to the officers and men of the German cruiser Emden such courtesies as the club would extend to the company of any other foreign nation’s warship. The matter was taken in committee, and the decision was made under one of the objects of rotary—that of the advancement of international peace and goodwill. THE CANCELLED CIVIC reception GERMAN CONSUL’S REQUEST. By Telegraph. —Press Association. Auckland, June 10. A proposal that the German Consul for New Zealand should be asked to withdraw his request that no civic reception be given in Auckland to the officers of the German cruiser Emden was adopted at a meeting of the committee, convened by Mr. E. Langguth, formerly Austrian Consul, for the purpose of organising an entertainment programme. The Rev. H. Vickery, chaplain of the Missions to Seamen, wrote stating that the ship’s company would be invited to make use of the Institute, where a concert would be held. Arrangements were completed for a reception and dance in honour of the visitors. It was decided that the hall be decorated with the British, New Zealand, and German flags. A Maori party will take. part in the entertainment. Admission will be by invitation only.
