WELLINGTON R.S.A.

BRANCH FORMED AT EAST- ' BOURNE. A meeting of about fifty ex-service men was held at Eastbourne on Saturday, when it was unanimously decided to form a branch of the Wellington Returned Soldiers’ Association at Eastbourne. Colonel J. W. Hutchen explained the necessity for the continued activities of the association and pointed out that it was becoming a daily occurrence for men who had been discharged as fit to find that their health had broken down due to the privations and exposure suffered during the war. Mr. A. Walling stated that the work done by the association apparently was not appreciated or realised by the majority of men who were fit and well. Feeling that it was the duty of all who had served to continue to stand by those in need of assistance, he moved that a branch of the Wellington Returned Soldiers’ Association be formed, to be known as the Eastbourne Returned Soldiers’ Association. Mr. R. Hull, in seconding the motion, said that it gave him great pleasure to see so many present, keen to support the good work the association was doing. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. Wm. Perry, D. McClurg, and C. IL Child-Ayson. A strong committee, consisting of Messrs. Perry, chairman, J. W. Hutchen, vice-chairman, honorary secretary, A. Walling, honorary treasurer, A. Pilcher, and Messrs. Hamer, Haughton, Hull, McClurg, and Wilson was set up to control the affairs of the association. During the general discussion it was stated that the Pensions Appeal Board appointed by the Massey administration, were filling a long-felt want, and that there, was no doubt that the present Government would favourably consider any reasonable representations that might be made on behalf of those who had served their country in time of need. A further motion instructing the committee to bring down recommendations regarding rules to a meeting to be held on July 6, concluded the business.
