INSPIRING MOMENT

AT AUCKLAND

KING’S BIRTHDAY PARADE

Dominion Special Service.

Auckland, June 3.

Over six thousand troops paraded at the Domain to-day before the Governor-General, including 17 officers and 429 men of the Royal Navy. The Governor-General was received by General R. Young, Officer Commanding the New Zealand Forces. After the Royal Salute of twenty-one guns had thundered from the hill His Excellency returned to the saluting base for the march-past. When the troops had marched past and had been drawn up again in review order His Excellency and staff moved out in front of the parade, and removing their headgear the 6000 men and Cadets gave three hearty cheers for His Majesty at the call of the General. It was an inspiring moment, rendered all the more so by reason of the anxiety of the King’s subjects during his late severe illness and his providential recovery.
