“Apparently New Zealanders have conquered the art of roadmaking,” said Miss M. Jennie Street, of London, the British Christian Endeavour Union’s honorary field secretary, when visiting Gisborne (reports the “Herald”). “The OpotikiMotu road is a magnificent piece of work, and despite the numerous hairpin turns I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the journey . The bush scenery was beyond description and equal to anything I have seen in other countries. The journey from Opotiki to Motu alone is worth coming to New Zealand to see. I have great hopes for the future of this Dominion, for I think the people who make New Zealand’s roads can do anything.”
