EDUCATIONAL METHODS IN NEW ZEALAND DEVELOPMENT OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT IMPRESSIONS OF NEW SOUTH WALES MINISTER (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegrai) h.—Copyright.) Sydney, May 1. The Minister of Education, Mr. D. H. Drummond, on his return from New Zealand yesterday, praised the New Zealand agricultural training and reform of juvenile offenders. “The innovation of providing a type of school furniture best suited to the height, etc., of pupils in many centres, compelled my admiration,” said Mr. Drummond. “Other interesting experiments are open-air schools, notably at Christchurch, and the provision of a degree course in home science at the universities.” The Minister was particularly impressed with the extent to which local government had been developed in New Zealand, the number of fine ports along the coast, and the exceptional diffusion of population throughout the country, with its many progressive cities and provincial towns. New Zealand provided a striking contrast to New South Wales, where decentralisation was long overdue.
