INNUENDOES ABOUT FLIGHT AND LANDING SMITH AND ULM PROMISE COMPLETE ANSWER PROPOSED INQUIRY WELCOMED (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copy right.) (Rec. May 1, 8.30 p.m.) Sydney, May 1. To-day a statement was issued by Squadron-Leader Kingsford Smith and Flight-Lieutenant Ulm setting out that they have a full complete a: er to the criticisms and innuendoes made about their recent flight and forced landing. “We owe it to the public to give complete detai’s. We welcome the proposed inquiry. We assure the public we will do everythin . • r power to aid the committee of inquiry. No words can adequately express our sorrow at the loss of the two gallant men, Keith Anderson and Bobby Hitchcock. The fact that they were engage in rescue work on our behalf makes our sorrow even more poignant.’ PARTY RETURNING FROM KOOKABURRA NO NEWS LIKELY FOR SOME DAYS Sydney, May 1. A message from Wave Hill states that tl :re is no news yet from the land party at the Kookaburra, but as the partv was seen returning to Wave Hill it is assumed that Hitchcock’s body has been found. Lieutenant Eaton was apparently unable to communicate with the aeroplanes concerning the land party’s discoveries o.ving t the unsuitability of the country for the aeroplanes to land. It is further assumed 'hat it has been f nd impossible to fly Anderson's ’-'.ane back to civilisation, as was Eaton’s intention. It is considered that 't is unlikely that there will be any news of the land party’s discoveries until they reach Wave Hill in a few days’ time, unless in the meantime a suitable landing place is located for Ryan’s aeroplane to come down and intercept the ground party.
