SEATOUN SCHOOL

“EVICTED” CHILDREN RETURN. Recently a deputation from the parents of Seatoun, Worser Bay, and Rongotai, accompanied by Messrs. Keith, Hodge, and Klee, representatives of the Seatoun School Committee, was introduced to the Minister of Education by Mr. R. Semple, M.P. Mr. Gadd, of Worser Bay, stated to Mr. Atmore that the Education Department had evicted about forty children from the Seatoun School and ordered them to attend the Worser Bay School, and the Minister was asked to allow the children to return to Seatoun, as the people living on the foreshore— Scorching Bay, Karaka Bay, Worser Bay —and also Rongotai, did not wjsh their children to attend the Worser Bay School owing to its inaccessibility and for other reasons. The deputation was received very courteously by the Minister, and he visited the district in the afternoon and looked over the schools concerned. As a re. suit of his visit the Minister, through Mr. R. Semple, has advised the chairman of the Seatoun School Committee (Mr. P. L. Hodge), that he is willing to allow the evicted children to return to Seatoun School, and in order to overcome the difficulty of overcrowding has agreed to the Presbyterian Church being rented for six months. This, the Minister adds, will give the children warm and comfortable quarters for the winter months, and allow time to decide what permanent additions to the Seatoun School are necessary.
