ST. CUTHBERT’S CHURCH

ANNUAL MEETING OF PARISHIONERS.

The annual general meeting of parishioners was held in St. Cuthbert s Sunday Schoolroom on Tuesday, April 30. The vicar, Rev. H. A. Barnett, presided over a representative gathering. The vicar stated in his report that the year had been a very difficult but eventful one. The vestry had entered into two contracts in May, one for the removal, enlargement and improvement of the church buildings, the other for the sale of the site to be vacated. But on account of the City Council’s proposal to make a new deviation street, the vestry s work was held up for several months at a most critical juncture. The holdup had clouded the whole of their work for the remainder of the year under review, disorganising all their organisations. It was remarkable that under these circumstances they had actually made progress. The church buildings now stood upon a very fine site and were in an excellent state of repair. All the organisations were functioning again and working back to their former state of efficiency. Thanks to the City Council for making a monetary grant at the end of the financial year all their current accounts closed with small credit balances. He expressed very hearty thanks to all the workers, who had done remarkably loyal and effective service under difficult conditions. The following officers were elected: — Vicar’s warden, Mr. W. Husband? people’s warden, Mr. C. W. B. Edwards; vestry, Messrs. R. 8011, W. J. Chatfield, A. P. Collyer, C. Taylor, Thomas, C. W. Ward, Mesdames Charles, Glen, Robertson and Taylor; auditor, Mr. W. C. Charles; synodsman, Mr. C. W. B. Edwards. A CORRECTION. In the report of the annual meeting of parishioners of St. Peter’s Church the name “Mrs. A. W. W. Curtis” appeared as being re-elected people’s warden. This should have been “Mr. A. W. W. Curtis.”
