ECONOMIC SOCIETY

ANNUAL MEETING OF WELLINGTON BRANCH. About thirty members attended the annual meeting of the Wellington branch of the Economic Society of Australia and New Zealand. The report stated that the membership stood at 51, compared with 55 for the previous year. The council had had under discussion the question of the possibility of arranging lectures.on public administration, but so far had been unable to make any recommendations. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the -'resident (Mr. M. Fraser) said it was a little disappointing that some of the younger economists had not given the society the benefit of their research work in the form of papers. He hoped the younger students would not be diffident. Mr. C. M. Banks seconded the motion, remarking that he hoped they would have more lectures this year than they had had last year. He considered that at least six lectures should be given each year. The motion to adopt the report and balance-sheet was carried without further discussion. On the motion of the president, n hearty vote of thanks was carried to the Victoria College Council for the free use of a aeeting room for the year. The election of officers resulted as follows :—President, Professor Murphy ; vice-presidents, Messrs. W. Millward and P. E. Warner; hon. treasurer, Mr. A. D. Paisley; hon. secretary. Mr. H. B. Smith; council, Messrs. C. M. Banks, C. R. C. Robieson, M. J. Force, R. W. Edwards, W. M. Singleton, W. F. Ponder, W. J. McEldowney, P. J. Nathan, W. Nash, H. Valintine.
