STATE SUBSIDIES
FOR CONSTRUCTION PURPOSES ONLY Cabinet decided yesterday against the granting of subsidies on maintenance works carried out by local publie bodies. In making a brief announcement to this effect, the Prime Minister (Right Hon. Sir Joseph Ward) informed a “Dominion” representative that applications had from time to time been received for such subsidies, but in accordance with Cabinet’s decision subsidies would be available only for the construction of works referred to and approved by the engineers.
