MAN’S BODY FOUND IN HARBOUR

IDENTITY UNKNOWN. Yesterday morning at 8 o’clock the body of a man was found floating in the sea at a place known as Rocky Point by a ganger who was working on the Iluit railway line. The Petone police were communicated with, and the body was removed to Petone under the supervision of Constable King. The body was in an advanced stage of decomposition. The clothes were thoroughly searched, but they contained nothing by which the body could be identified. The man appeared to be elderly and the clothes suggested straitened circumstances. It is surmised by the police that the body had been in the water for approximately two weeks.
