ST. MARK’S CHURCH

ANNUAL MEETING OF PARISHIONERS The annual meeting of the parishioners of St. Mark’s Church was held last night, the vicar, the Rev. H. E. K. Fry, M.A., presiding. The annual report stated that it was gratifying to note a marked improvement in the church attendances during the last year, and it was felt that much of this was due to the untiring efforts of the vicar and assistant curate, who had not spared themselves in their work on behalf of the parish. “We regret,” confined the report, “to record the death during the past year of the Rev. C. N. R. Mackenzie, who was for a while assistant curate of the parish. We also regret to record the deaths of two of our oldest parishioners, the late Mr. Edward Janies Hylton, for some years a member of this vestry; and also the late Mrs. Sarah Hurford Ames, who was always deeply interested in the work of the Day School, and who left a bequest to the cathedral building fund, and also made provision in her will for annual prizes in the school, amongst the upper standards, for church attendance and a knowledge of Scripture. St. Mark’s Church Day School has an attendance now of some 240 children, so that the need for a new building is greatly felt.” The report, which was adopted with the balance-sheet, continued:— “We are glad to note that the change in our Sunday school arrangements has been shown to be warranted by the results, the morning Sunday school having an attendance of some 60 children, and the afternoon school numbers having increased. The parish trust board’s statement shows a total to the credit of the rebuilding fund of £4834 3s, 3d.” The following officers of the parish were elected for the ensuing year:—Diocesan Synod representatives, Messrs. W. J. Gaudin, W. H. Madeley, L, F. Watkins : churchwardens, Messrs. W. J. Gaudin (vicar's warden), G. A. Kennedy (people’s warden) ; vestry, Messrs. Baird, A. 11. Boyes, E. Hampton, A. Hall, W. H. Madeley, R. E. Rawnsley, — Lorck, A. E. Rising, H. Sieverson, and Dr. G. Kemp. St. Mark’s school committee, the vicar, Messrs. W. J. Gaudin, W. H. Madeley, G. W. Barltrop, and Mrs. E. Y. Redwood.
