WEEK-END RAILWAY EXCURSIONS
The opportunity given to visit Tongariro National Park over the week-end at substantially reduced rates in rail and motor fares and hotel accommodation has caused considerable interest. An excursion was again run last week-end, and the intention is to continue the excursions throughout the winter. The passengers from Wellington travel by the WellingtonAuckland express leaving Thorndon at 2 p.m. on Friday or Saturday, and those from Napier, Wanganui and intermediate stations connect with this train at Palmerston North and Marton respectively. They will be met at National Park railway station by motor-cars and conveyed to Whakapapa Lodge, a distance of about 10 miles. Pending the completion of the modern chateau now in the course of construction, visitors will be well accommodated at the lodge, which Is run on modern hotel lines. The special trips provide for either one and a half or two and a half days’ stay at the park, and the return journey is made by the Auckland-Welling-ton express train, arriving at Wellington at 12.38 p.m. Arrangements may be made and full particulars obtained from any railway booking office. Government Tourist Office, Messrs. Thos. Cook and Son, or the Tongariro Park Tourist Company, Wellington.
