ELECTRIFYING THE CITY COUNCIL

gir,— Following up the subject of “Pedestrian’s” letter of April 29, may 1 draw the attention through your columns of the City Fathers to the shocking state of the right-of-way leading from Moir Street to Lloyd Street. In wet weather this is a miniature river, while when it is fine one needs hob-nailed boots to walk through it. It would cost very little to bituminise this lane, and as it is used as a short cut by very many residents of Brougham, Ellice and other streets in the vicinity, the traffic is very considerable. I understand that residents in the vicinity are quite willing to assist the council by paying a small levy, although surely our very heavy rates should cover a small item like this. May I also suggest to the responsible authorities that a local policeman should be instructed to keep an occasional eye on this locality, as it is sometimes the rendezvous of rather questionable characters late at night, who make the place an unfit spectacle in the morning for the many children and ladies who use it. — I am. etc., BROUGHAM ST. RATEPAYER. Wellington, April 30.
