TAILOR-MADE CLOTHES
PERCENTAGE WORN TO-DAY Dominion Special Service. Auckland, April 19. The percentage of tailored suits worn by Auckland men is estimated at 25, and it may be smaller Mr. Justice Frazer was given this information in the Arbitration C :rt this morning, when the Auckland Master Tailors’ dispute was under consideration. “What is the percentage of tailormade clothes?” he asked. Mr. H. N. Preston, who appc >d for the master tailors and opposed an application by the cleaners and dyers in the city for an exemption from the provision of the award, said he had not seriously considered the matter, but he should say the percentage of tailor-made suits in Auckland ranged from 25 to 30 per cent. Another estimate was given, that of the clothing that passed through cleaners’ hands only 12J to 13 per -ent. was tailor-made. His Honou- said the latter estimate must vary according to the types of customers. In these hard times the man who bought a tailor-made suit wanted to make it last as long as possible, and occasionally he got It cleaned.
