LEVIN NOTES
The first three miles of highway on the Levin-Foxton thoroughfare is to be commenced very soon by day labour, which means the gangs of men recently employed by the council will be busy throughout the winter. . ± . v > Steps are being taken to form a hockey club at Levin. TTie special afternoon set apart for honorary members in connection with the Croquet Club was held on Tuesday last. Much Interest was shown in the various competitions, which resulted as follows:— Golf croquet. Miss M. ITyder; putting, Mrs. Logan’ clover-leaf, Mrs. Sherwood; tunnels, Mrs Sigley; ladder, Miss Holdaway. By the death of Mr. Wlnlata Pataku, at the'age of 76, the Coast has lost a good settler a great sport, and a very worthy' citizen. No function for many years has taken place without him and his relatives being represented whenever the local Natives took part. He leaves a family of thirteen.
