CANADIAN CHALLENGER IN PORT. The Canadian Challenger arrived at Wellington last evening from Halifax, via Auckland. The vessel will discharge at the Pipitea Wharf, and is expected to leave here on Monday for Lyttelton, Timaru and Dunedin to put out the remainder of her cargo. MOVEMENTS OF CAMBRIDGE. The Federal Company advise that the Cambridge at present discharging at Napier, is due at Wellington next Wednesday to put out part of her Liverpool cargo. The vessel will proceed from here to Lyttelton and Dunedin to unload the remainder She is to commence loading at Port Chalmers on May 6 for New York, Avonmouth, Glasgow and Liverpool. The vessel will load also nt Lyttelton, Wanganui roadstead and Wellington. She is due at Wellington on May 16, and will leave here on May 18 for Napier and Auckland to fill up. The vessel will sail finally from Auckland on’May 29. MERCHANT SERVICE GUILD. The annual meeting of the Wellington Merchant Service Guild will be hold at 10 a.m.- on Monday at Gamble and Creed’s reception room, Lambton Quay. PHOSPHATES AND SULPHUR. The steamer Baron Maclay has been chartered to load a cargo of phosphates at Casablanca. Morocco, for discharge at Auckland. It was formerly reported that the Clan Maclay bad been chartered to lond sulphur at Galveston for New Zealand and Australia. The Inshdalrnie will probably. take the sulphur loading.

PORT CURTIS SAILS THIS MORNING. The C. and D. Line will dispatch the Port Curtis from Wellington at 0 o'clock this morning for London, via Montevideo. Dr. G. M. Evans, of Timaru, Is accompanying the vessel as ship's surgeon. RADIO FROM ROTORUA. A further wireless message was received yesterday by the New Zealand Shipping Company from their liner Rotorua, cn route from London and Southampton, stating that the vessel will arrive at Auckland at 3 p.m. to-day. She is expected at Wellington about the end of next week. NITRATES FROM CHILE. The ship Baron Pentland has been chartered to load nitrate at "Chilian ports towards tho end of May for Auckland, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Fremantle. She Is due at Auckland early in July. CALCUTTA-NEW ZEALAND TRADE. The Union Company advise that the Nar-, bada lias been fixed to take the JulyAugust loading at Calcutta, completing at Penang, Singapore, and Samarang for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru, Dunedin, and Bluff, in place of the Hauraki. THE TUTANEKAI. The Government steamer Tutanckai, which arrived at Auckland on Thursday from the Kermadcc Islands, is to leave again early on Monday morning on hertour of northern lighthouses. DEATH OF CHIEF ENGINEER. The death occurred at Sydney recently of Mr. Arnold Levestam, a former chief engineer of the Union Steam Ship Company. The late Mr. Levestam was born at Nelson in 1863, his father being the member of Parliament for the district. After serving his apprenticeship with Messrs. Robertson Bros., of Wellington, he Joined the Kpranul as second engineer in 1888. In 1898 he was appointed chief engineer of the Dlngadee, and later served In that capacity on many of the company’s vessels. He left the sea In 1925, after 37 years of service. He was a member of the New Zealand Institute of Marine and Power Engineers, being for many years on the executive and also a vice-president. He leaves a widow in Sydney and a daughter and two brothers in New Zealand—Mr. F. W. Levestam, of Wellington,

and Mr. B, A. Levestam, of Westport, who is chief engineer on the dredge Eilecu Ward. ’ MISCELLANEOUS. The Wingatui will leave Auckland on Wednesday for Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. The Storm, from Dunedin, via ports, is due here on Tuesday and goes on to Wanganui. The Kairanga will leave Portland today with cement for Wellington and Lyttelton. The Waipiata is to leave Bluff on Tuesday for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, aud Auckland. The Regulus, from Nelson, Is due here on Wednesday, and will leave again later the same day for Westport and Greymouth. ' The Kaimanawa, due here to-morrow from Westport, will leave on Tuesday for Aucklanil. From Dunedin, via ports, the Ilolmdale is due here to-morrow, and will leave on Monday for Wanganui, returning to Wellington and southern ports. The Progress is due hero on Tuesday from southern ports, and goes on to New ■'Plymouth and Port Waikato. The liner Tainui left Auckland yesterday afternoon for Opua to proceed with her Homeward loading. The Westmoreland sailed from Port Chalmers at 11.30 a.m. yesterday for London and West Coast ports of Great Britain. Tho Tasmania left Gisborne at 9.30 p.m. on Thursday for Auckland to fill up. She is to Ball finally from Auckland next Wednesday for New York, Boston, Halifax, and West Coast of Great Britain. Owing to high seas yesterday the Rimutaka had to cruise off the Wanganui roadstead, and there was some doubt whether she would leave for Wellington at midnight last night. The Rangltiki will now leave Bluff next Wednesday afternoon for Port Chalmers to continue loading. The Raranga left Auckland at 6.30 a.m. yesterday tor Tokomaru Bay to continue loading. The Otira was again compelled to put to sea from Waikokopu at 2 a.m. yesterday owing to rough weather. She is expected, however, to leave Waikokopu to-day for Auckland.
