TROTTING

TIMARU MEETING TO-DAY (By "Overcheck.”) The Timaru meeting is to be held to-day, and Judging by the acceptances the racing should be of an interesting character throughout. . Proceedings will be opened with the KINGSDOWN HANDICAP, in harness, of 120 sovs. Unhoppled trotters. One mile and a-half. Don Wilkes .... scr Lucky Voyage 1Admiral Bingen scr Midland b 0 Blue and Gold scr Great Nelson.. 00 Bon Boy scr Kereta 7Decrene scr Accumulator .. 7Gemlight scr Aileen Wood.. 84 Great Harvester scr Tot Logan .... 84 Rustle scr Brent Boy .... 96 Sadie Wilkes .. scr Boneta l-° A number of those engaged are as yet unknown quantities to most racegoers, and a surprise may be in store. Of the scratch section Blue and Gold, who ran fourth at Timaru in January, may be in most demand, as Great Nelson and Kereta, who then finished in front of him, now meet him on 60 and 36 yards worse terms. Lucky Voyage, on 12 yards, is nicely treated, while of the back-markers Tot Logan, who showed winning form at Nelson, may do best. The three to find most favour may be Blue and Gold, Lucky Voyage, and Tot Logan. TRIAL HANDICAP, in harness, of 120 sovs. One mile Jml a-half. Brixton scr Our Maud .... scr Devon Child .. scr Nigger Dillon scr Frances de Oro scr Paddy Bingen . scr Harold Bingen scr Rolex scr Matlock Bank . scr Tactless scr Muri scr Target scr Myra Locanda scr Toorhead scr Oinadora ser Forward Maid 36 Rolex, who ran second to Anon at the Banks Peninsula meeting on Saturday last, will probably find most favour with investors. Tactless, who contested the Juvenile Handicap at Addington in February, which was a particularly fast-run race, should find the present company more to his liking, while of the remainder Frances de Oro, who is held in fairly high esteem, may have a good following. TIMARU TROTTING CUP HANDICAP, in harness, of 350 sovs. 4.36 class. Two miles. Royal Serene .. scr Omaha 24 Avenger scr Golden Bubbles 24 Travis Desert Star .. 24 Axworthy 12 Jolly Pet 36 Wrackler 12 Real Light ... 36 Lingfield 12 Trampfast .... 72 Macaranda .... 24 Author Jinks. 108 Maiwharetl ... 24 At Addington last month Royal Serene won the Liverpool Handicap from Travis Axworthy and Roddy, her time being 4.36 1-5. In that race Avenger was conceding the winner 60 yards. Travis Axworthy’s time was 4.34 2-5, and as he is more reliable than Royal Serene is to be preferred on this account. Wrackler ran second to Torpedo Huon at Otahuhu. and was fifth at the Waikato meeting, after losing a lot of ground. He is unofficially reported to have gone about 4.29, and a repetition of that form should find him well up at the finish of this race. Lingfield will have the services of Tomkinson, besides which she has been showing improved form of late, as she went 4.34 1-5 at Forbury recently. Maiwharlti may find the Journey too far. but Omaha will not, for at Timaru in January he finished second to Dundas Boy,'going 4.35 1-5. Author Jinks, who was third, registering 4.28. The latter is now on the same mark as he was on in that race, while Omaha has gone back 12 yards. In what should be a keen contest Wrackler, Lingfield, and Travis Axworthy should acquit themselves creditably. SEADOWN HANDICAP, in harness, of 150 sovs. 3.36 class. One mile and a-half. Editor scr Rafa scr Ecstasy .... scr Rey Child .... scr Fair Dillon ... ser Tahoe scr Kautoma scr Lily Bingen .. 12 Lady Cello .... scr Hard Knocks. 24 Le Thorpe .... scr John Noble ... 36 Monopole scr Wrackeen 48 Mountain Ore . scr Denver’s Doll . 48 Nonsuit scr Springtime ... 48 Our Maud .... scr Editor and Ecstasy >cach have two firsts and an unplaced performance to their credit in their last three attempts, while Lady Cello and Nonsuit have each won recently. The races won by Ecstasy were of one mile and a quarter and one mile, while Editor has won at 12 furlongs and fourteen and a half. Lady Cello won at a mile and a half at Ashburton in December in 3.37 1-5. Nonsuit’s success was over ten furlongs at the last Wellington meeting but he should be now able to see out twelve furlongs. Rafa is Rafa and will probably win if he can be induced to go evenly, but the odds are against this. Of those further back Wrackeen may do best. When heads are turned for home Editor, Nonsuit and Lady Cello should be in the picture. TEMUKA HANDICAP, in harness, of 170 sovs. Unhoppled trotters. 4.55 class. Two miles. Accumulator .. scr Peter Lin 36 Midland ser New Metford.. 36 St. Pctrox .... scr Repute 60 Eva Reta scr Climax 72 Brent Boy .... scr Tim Wood .... 72 Quickfire 24 Trampcrisp ... 72 Boueta 36 Len Wood .... 132 Of the scratch division Eva Reta’s form has been the most consistent and she should again give a good account of herself. Quickilre on 4.53 has also been racing consistently as out of his last five starts he has only once been outside the money. He now ranks as a five-year-old and so his best days should be in front of him. Boneta, scr., Brent Boy, 12 yards, and Midland, 60 yards, finished in that order at the Inangahua meeting in December, and one would therefore expect the latter to now do best of that trio. Peter Lin, New Metford, and Tim Wood filled the positions in the Waimate Handicap at Timaru in January, the winner ' being in receipt of 24 and 72 yards from the second and third horses. On that form Tim Wood may do best tins time, as he was only half a head away from New Metford, who was two lengths behind Peter Lin. Trampcrisp defeated Tim Wood from the same mark at New Brighton in December, and his chances cannot be disregarded. Possibly the public will place most reliance In Quickfire, Eva Reta and- Midland. WASHDYKE HANDICAP, in harness, of 180 sovs. 2.52 class. One mile and aquarter. Lindbergh .... ser Hector’s Own. 36 Loco scr Harold Burwood 36 Meb scr Lingfield 36 Sylvie Logan . scr Bob Logan ... 36 Erin's Lynn .. 12 Kotuku Jack . 48 Neerson 12 Daphne de Oro 00 Avenger 36 Author Jinks . 108 Daphne de Oro is due to make a reappearance in this race and her form will be followed with interest. After his good showing in the Juvenile Handicap at Addington last month, Lindbergh is sure to Be in keen demand, but there are a number of promising horses engaged and the race is not likely to be a one-sided affair by any means. Loco raced somewhat disap-

pointingly when seen out at Wellington last month. Meb has shown no form for some time and appears to be held safe by Sylvan Logan and Neerson. Hector’s Own won over two miles at Forbury in January, but Lingfield is preferred. Of the others possibly Kotuku Jack will do best, but the winner seems likely to come from the front section, and so Lindbergh, Sylvia Logan and Neerson may divide the stake.

FAIRLIE HANDICAP, in harness, of 160 sovs. 4.46 class. Two miles. Wild Voyage . scr Ivor 24 Sunny Bob ... 12 Mac de Oro ... 24 Apex 12 Krina 24 Denver’s Doll . 12 Lindbergh .... 48 Nelson de Oro 24 Erin’s Lynn .. 72 Great Logan .. 24 Great Logan will have an opportunity of rehabilitating himself in public favour in this race. Apex ran third to Erin’s Lynn and June de Oro at Timaru in January and now meets the former on 72 yards better terms. Nelson de. Oro ran second to Fair Wave in the Invercargill Trotting Cup, and is entitled to respect. Krina won the Nelson Cup in 4.41 3-5 and Is therefore favourably handicapped on 4.44. When the machine closes the three in strongest demand may be found to be Krina, Great Logan and Nelson de Oro. WAI-ITI HANDICAP, in saddle, of 160 sovs. 2.19 class. One mile. Audubon Lad . scr Meb 12 Gibraltar scr Yoicks 12 Horotane scr Lucky Dillon . 24 Ivor scr Sylvie Logan . 24 Nelson Bing Boy 48 McKinney scr Tarzan 48 Return Voyage scr Dillon Gold .. 48 Ivor won a mile saddle race at the Inangahua meeting in December and with Return Voyage reads best to me of the scratch section. Yoicks usually races best with the weight on top and should go a good race. Bing Boy may be the best of the others, but there is always a doubt about him leaving the mark correctly. Racegoers may therefore prefer to rely on Ivor, Return Voyage and Yoicks. TROTTING INQUIRIES RECENT HUTT PARK FINE By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, March 8. At a meeting of the board of the New Zealand Trotting Association a letter was received from J. V. Dyke complaining that he had not been allowed to ask questions at the Wellington Trotting Club’s inquiry into his driving of Halmore at Hutt Park. As a result of the inquiry he was fined £2 for alleged undue use of the whip and lack of control of Halmore, and was severely cautioned. It was decided to refer the matter to the Wellington Club with an instruction that he be given an opportunity of asking questions and calling evidence if such facilities had not already been granted him. The board also heard an echo of the Laplander-Free Advice case, when the action of the Otahuhu Club in deciding to take no further action after the reopening of the inquiry was endorsed by the board. It was decided to call upon Carl Nordquist, owner of Laplander, to appear before the next meeting or the board to show cause why he should not withdraw or substantiate a statement made by him that Bryce had spoken to the Judge at the conclusion of the Onehunga Handicap and everyone had seen him except the stipendiary stewards.
