A committee.meeting of the whole board was held last week to consider Mr. Holmes s re nott on the reclamation project, and the position was further discussed yesterday Afternoon when the board sat in close board’s resuming in open ■meeting, the following resolution was passed* all those present excepting the chairman (Mr. H. R. Duncan) voting for it- ‘‘That since Mr. Dudley Holmes has not "been able to give sufficient time and. sujetririon to th!. affairs of the board from pressure of work in the North L land, the interests of the board have suffered 'in .consequence, and the board has no other alternative but to ask ( .ur. Holmes to send in his resignation. Mr. Duncan, who wished his vote rei corded.against the motion, said that while he was with the members of the board in thaT he thought Mr. Holmes’s duties elsewhere had interfered with his; duties for'the board, he did not think, that the board was justified, at this juncture in dispensing with Mr . Holmes s services. “Although he was out in his estimates, said Mr. Duncan, “I think that the work that has been done, under his supervision is a valuable asset to the board. Mr. Duncan-said he was referring hrsfly to the dredging that had been carried out at'the east end of the wharf, secondly to the defection of the Maitai, which had prevented silting round the wharves and enabled the harbourmaster to berth vessels with greater., ease, and thirdly to the portion of: .reclamation that had been completed for the oil. company and winch would be a valuable revenue-producing asset. In addition, a valuable new berthage had been provided between the reclamation :and the' wharf.
