MEETING AT MARTON. Marton, Starch 7. The Marton Athletic Club held a very successful sports meeting last evening. Interest was added to the occasion by the appearance of “Clarie” Gibbons, the local .mile runner, who is now in solid train ng for a forthcoming race ■with-.Savidan. Gibbons won the mile in splendid style. Results of the events are as follow: — Foot Events. 100yds. handicap: .T. Robertson (oyds.). 1: P. Whale (71yds.), 2; A. Greenwood (Svds.), 3. Gibbons ran a splendid race, and amid loud applause left the rest of the field in the last lap to finish strongly. Cycling. One mile handicap: R- Leo (Waverley), 120yds., 1; D. Hamer, 140yds., 2; E. Fleet (Taihape), 150yds., 3. Time, 2min. 25scc. Leo came from the bunch on entering the straight and won an exciting race. Two-mile handicap: R. Bland (130yds.). 1; F. Gibbons (160yds.), 2; R. I,co (210 yds.). 3. Time, smln. fllsec. Bland was the back-marker, and finished strongly. Three-mile handicap: F. Gibbons (250 vds.), 1; R. Bland (180yds.), 2; R. Leo (310yds.), 3.
