NAVY LEAGUE

WELLINGTON EXECUTIVE. At a meeting of the Navy League executive this week there were present Captain T. M. Chudley (in the chair), Mrs. J. Findlay. Miss Cable, Messrs. J. H. Fowler, C. W. Palmer, J. C. Crawford, F. H. Irwin ,W. A. Armour ,D. A. Strachan, A. Walker, and the secretary (R. Darroch). The chairman made feeling reference to the deaths of Sir Douglas Mac Lean, president of the league, and Sir Charles Skerrett, Chief Justice, a vice-president, and asked members to stand out of respect to their memory. Correspondence was received from the head office, London, supplying a progress remit paper for the Empire Conference, of the Navy League, to be held in London, on October 24. It was decided to consider these remits at a future meeting. Arrangements were made to hold a meeting of the three Navy League committees to hear an address by Paymaster Commander Carter (Rtd.), and others, on Navy League matters. Mrs. Findlay reported that a very successful dance had been held for the English public school boys in conjunction with the Victoria League, the Overseas’ Club, and the English Speaking Union. A jumble sale for the Sailors* Dependent Fund will be held on March 23. The secretary reported that nine new members had joined during the month, including four frontiersmen, who had become fellows of the league. At a date to be arranged, it was decided to hold an afternoon tea for all members of the Navy League at Kirkcaldie’s. Captain Chudley, R.N.R., was elected acting-president for the remainder ot the Navy League year.
