ITALIA DISASTER
COMMANDER BLAMED FAULTY HANDLING OF AIRSHIP J UNJUSTIFIABLE PRIORITY' OF ‘ RESCUE (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Australian Press Association.) it Rome, March 3. The italia Inquiry Commission’s report, ( which has been submitted to Signor Mussolini, states that the loss of the Italia was due to faulty handling by General Nobile, the composition of- the crew, and the use made of it. The conduct of Mariano and Zappi is described as _ praiseworthy, and Nobile’s acceptance of priority of rescue unjustifiable and explicable only by his physical and moral depression and the Swedish airman, Lundborg’s, urgent invitation. The utmost was done for the discovery, assistance, and rescue of the survivors; also in the tracing of the;’airship, which the Italians, with efficient foreign co-operation, smartly accomplished. The report pays tributes to the Soviet ice-breaker Krassin’s crew, and to the late Captain Roald Amundsen’s generous sacrifice.
