QUARTERLY MEETING ' WOMEN IN HOTELS The quarterly meeting of the Wellington Licensing Benell was held at noon yesterday, Mr. G. J. Petherick presiding, in tiie absence of Mr. E. Page, S.M. This was the first meeting of the new committee, those present being Messrs. M. A. Carr, W. I. Clark, R. Darroch, and F. Meadowcroft. Senior-Sergeant Butler ap- j peared for the Police Department. Police Report. The acting-chairman intimated that the police report stated that, with two exceptions, the conduct of the hotels in the Wellington area had been satisfactory. Two licensees had been fined for afterhour trading, and it tyas hoped that this would serve as a warning to others. Women in Hotels. Mr. Petherick stated that the police report referred to the number of women found in one of the hotels, there being no less than twelve there on one occasion. The licensee was advised that while this practice of serving women was within the law, it was looked on with disfavour. The admonition was endorsed by the Licensing Bench. ~ ‘ Transfers of Licenses. The transfer of the license of the Tramway Hotel, from F. E. McParland to C. J. MeParland, was granted, as was also that of the Albert Hotel, from B. J. Kelleher to C. E. Faulkner. A temporary transfer of the license of the City Hotel from G. J. Young to A. Brown was also granted. '
