The body of James Wex, a labourer, aged about 58. was found in an outhouse at the Railway Hotel, Orepuki. on Saturday morning with his throat cut (states a Press Association message from Invercargill), An inquest wtts held and a verdict of suicide while of unsound mind wtis returned. A young man, Gordon Shaw, employed by the Invercargill trainer S. Todd, was exercising a pacer in fast work on the Southland Racing Club’s tracks yesterday when the horse fell and he landed on his head, sustaining a compound fracture of the nose and other facial injuries. He was removed to the Southland Hospital.—Press Assn.
