STEP FORWARD IN HUTT VALLEY SCHEME The proposed general town-planning scheme for the Hutt. Valley was approved in a motion carried by the Upper Hutt Borough Council last night. A copy of the Petone Borough Council’s resolution was received from that body. The accompanying letter stated that the Hutt County Council had not yet had opportunity to nsider the matter, but the Hutt Borough had. replied suggesting that the area should include the Upper Hutt and Eastbourne boroughs. It was desired that the council should make known its views ou the matter. The Mayor (Mr. P. Robertson) said that tbe respective Mayors bad met and had had a preliminary discussion ou the subject, iu which matters were discussed at length. It had been decided to call a conference of all local bodies to which all members would be invited. Thus everyone, would be able to voice his opinion. Petone, continued the Mayor, had come to the eud of their resources, and

the town planning of the industrial district was very necessary, and it had been considered better to get all the other local bodies in it also. Although Councillor T. R. Jamieson did not think that the lower and upper portions of the Valley could be harmonised while there was no other connection than the Gorge between them, he expressed the opinion that it was a step in. the right direction. As Upper Hutt would shortly have to undergo town planning, said the Mayor, it “might be better to join in with the neighbours and get it that way.”
