MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETING revision of plunket SHIELD RULES The New Zealand Cricket Council wrote to the Management Committee of the Wellington Cricket Association, which met last night, asking if the association had any suggestions to make in the direction of altering or amending the Plunket Shield rules. It was stated that the procedure of allotting points in Sheffield Shield cricket in Australia was on the basis of five points for an outright win, three for a first innings win, one for a first innings loss, and in the event of a tie the position would be determined by the best batting and bowling averages. The latest English county method was on the basis of eight points for an outright win, five for a first innings win, four for a tie on first innings or on the match, four if there was no result on the first innings after six hours’ actual play, and three points for a loss on the first innings. It was decided to reply that in the opinion of the association the Plunket Shield rules needed revision, and that a report would be made at a later date. A protest was received from the secretary of the Kilbirnie Cricket Club in connection with the third grade (A) match between Kilbirnie v. Stop Out, in wmeh it was stated that Stop Out had drawn stumps before time and deprived ■ Kilbirnie of victory. It was decided to ask the Stop Out Club for an explanation.
