RE-HEARING GRANTED
CHARGE OF INTOXICATION. Dominion Special Service. Masterton, March 1. In the Magistrate’s Court this morning Mr. J. Miller, S.M., heard an application for the rehearing of a ease heard in August last, wherein John Hoffman, ot Tinui, was found guilty of being in a state of intoxication while in charge or a motor-car. Mr. 1 J. McGrath (AAellington), who appeared in support of the application, called evidence placing before His AVorship facts which had not been considered at the previous hearing. Several witnesses gave evidence as to defendant’s good character in the district, and the fact that he had been taught a lesson. Counsel asked, in the event of a rehearing being granted, that the period of, the cancellation of defendant’s license be reduced. The Magistrate granted the rehearing, reducing the period of the cancellation of the license to six months, which ends on March 21. The conviction, fines and costs stand as at the first hearing.
