NGAIO CLUE Mr. S. Faulknor, who won the championship of the Ngaio Chess Club a year ago, retains that honour for a further term, having taken first prize in the tworound contest that was concluded on Tuesday lagt, the final figures of which

This tourney also bore out the Ngaio Club’s reputation for close finishes, one point covering the first four players. Mr. Faulknor, having won both tourneys, has naturally received many congratulations on registering this double success. Mr. Hicks was actually the only competitor to go through this contest without losing a game, but his score contained 5 draws, and this put him in second place. Mr. F. J Brooker, the club’s president, also played strongly, in both tourneys. He would have ten concealed in a triple tie for the club championship had the last game of the series (Faulknor v. Topp, sen.) ended in a draw. Messrs. J. A. Glasgow and A. T. Eades are leading for the club's •l’ lnl< ’ 1 ’ ehampionship. with Messrs. E. W. lord and W. Hicks in close pursuit. WORKING MEN’S CLUB The annual handicap chess tourney of this club has been won by Mr. H. L. Crandle, who finished up with 12J wins 24 losses. The other jwize-winners are J. Lindsay (12—3). 'Valkey (11 ), and H. M. Rosenberg (10—•> ; Me ß ? l *’ K Andrews, H. Anderson, M. '’y 111 ?: nnd C. T. Edmunds were the best of the remaining twelve competitors. For the chess championship of the club .Mr. K. Andrews is leading, with Messrs. H. E. Crandle and F. K. Kelhng in close pur/iit. The junior chess championship has been won by T.
