WIDOW RECEIVES £l,OOO COMPENSATION Anne Elizabeth Muir, widow, of Petone, has been awarded £lOOO compensation, £32 148.* 6d. ’ funeral 6Xpenses and £l5 15s. costs and witnesses’ expenses, by the Arbitration Court for the death of her husband, who was employed by J. C. Hutton (N.Z.), Ltd., the defendants in the action. Deceased was 48 years of age, and had been employed for 19 years In de- , fendants’ bacon curing factory up to the time of his death on September 3 last. He had been stacking cartons weighing up to 801 b. odd, when he staggered and fell, and death ensued in a few minutes. It was contended that death was due to heart disease of long standing, and while this was not disputed it was claimed that the work deceased was doing acted upon his weak heart, exhausting its reserve and bringing about collapse.... Similar cases were reviewed by Mr. Justice Frazer in delivering the Court’s decision, which was in favour of the Widow as stated.
