MONTHLY MEETING OF BOARD

FURTHER CAPITAL EXPENDITURE The monthly meeting of the Hospital Board was held yesterday. The chairman (Mr. C. DI. Luke) presided, and there were also present: Mesdames Semple, Preston, and Fraser, Revs. H. Van Staveren, and J. A. Lochore, Messrs. D. Campbell, F. Castle, W. Appleton, J. H. Hclliwell, T. H. Gill, E. Windjey, A. J. McCurdy, G. Pethcrick, C. B. Robinson, and F. Bennett. On the recommendation of the general committee, it was agreed that a payment of £5OO be made to the Wellington, Free Ambulance during. March, this being a portion of the amount of £lOOO allowed by statute to be paid by the Board to the Ambulance. The Medical Superintendent reported that 646 patients had been admitted to teh hospital during January, and 619 (320 males and 289 females) had been discharged. There bad been 35 deaths, 17 males and 18 females. Social Welfare. The Social Welfare Committee reported that during January, the following eases had been relieved: —Unemployment, 141: desertion and separation, 38; sickness. 155; widowhood, 28; old age, 17; imprisonment, 10; miscellaneous, 3. The total number of outdoor cases was 392, eash grants of £476 had been made, and £l7 expended upon unemployment casual relief. Hospital Estimates.
