MUNICIPAL ABBATOIRS

LOANS FOR IMPROVEMENTS TOTAL OF £61,500 Authority to make application tq the Local Government Loans Board for the necessary sanction to the raising pf loans totalling £61,500 for effecting improvements to the municipal abattoirs pnd meeting obligations to the district fund was granted by the City Council at its meeting last night. Particulars of the loans are as follow: (1) A loan of £48,000 under the provisions of section 2 of the Slaughtering and Inspection Amendment Act, 1927, for extensions tp the municipal abattoir and- for the installation of an automatic chilling plant. (2) A special loan of £13,500 under the Wellington City Abattoir Loan Act, 1919, for recouping moneys due to the district fund for capital expenditure and preliminary expenses in connection with the abatCouncillor J. Burps, in explaining the proposals, said the matter had been before the council on several occasions and negotiations dated back to, 1920. some delay had been occasioned by the question, firstly, of whether the site was suitable for a permanent abattoir, and, secondly, whether it wgs large enough to ailow of extensions. It was quite clear from official reports that the area was quite suitable for all time.
