DEPARTMENTAL PICNIC

COMBINED RAILWAY STAFFS. The second annual plcnie of the Government Railway Workshops, Lower Hutt, and the maintenance stall; Kalwarra, was held at Maidstone Park on Saturday last. The weather conditions were ideal, and the popularity of the event was clearly demonstrated by the large attendance. In this respect the expectations of all were surpassed. , , , , The popular combined workshops baud rendered music which was deeply appreciated by all present. Due to the untiring efforts of the committee In charge of the children’s section, the sports programme for the youngsters was a great success. Free toys and sweets were also given to the children. Owing to the limited time before the departure of the trains the adults’ sports programme had unfortunately to be curtailed. A committee with Mr. P. E. Warner (chairman) and Mr. Seddon (organising secretary and treasurer) left no stone unturned in providing for the enjoyment of all present. The president, Mr. A. E. P. Walworth (workshops manager), being unavoidably absent, the distribution of prizes was made by the vice-president, Mr. J. A. McDougall, assisted by Mrs. McDougall.
