The Minister of Railways (the Hon. W. B. Taverner), Mr. 11. I-I. Sterling, General Manager of Railways, and Mr. Phillipps Turner, Director of Forestry, after a tour of the Rotorua district extending to Taupo, left yesterday morning for the Matamata and Arapuni districts. —Press Assn. Sutherland Ross, C.M.G., of Dunedin, president of the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation, arrived in Wellington by the ferry steamer from the South yesterday morning. He is to preside at the opening of the annual conference here this morning. Mr. A. C. Galbraith,*of Los Angeles, representative of the Atlantic Union Oil Company, arrived at Auckland from Vancouver by the Aorangi. He will make a business tour of New Zealand and Australia. Mr. William B. Cochrane, the new American Vice-Consul at Auckland, and Mrs. Coehrane, arrived in Auckland from Vancouver by the Aorangi. Mr. Coehrane will take up his duties almost immediately. After being connected with “Le Groves” since 1904, when the business was carried on by the late Mr. E. J. Le Grove, Mr. V. R. Bennett has severed his connection with the Le Grove Typewriter and Importing Co. Ltd. At a gathering of the staff on Friday Mr. E. E. Le Grove, on behalf of the staff, presented to him a handsome box of cutlery. Mr. Bennett has taken over the charge of the mechanical department of Messrs. W. J. Seater and Co. Mr. J. Rankin, inter-State representative and inspector of agencies for the Distillers Company Ltd., of Edinburgh, arrived from Sydney by the Marama yesterday on a tour of inspection of the company’s agencies in New Zealand. Mr. Rankin is a vice-presi-dent of the New South Wales Bowling Association, and is well known to New Zealand bowlers. He expects to remain in the Dominion for three or four months.
