MANAWATU AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, February 25. A meeting of the committee of the Manawatu Automobile Association was held to-night, the president, Mr. E. R. B. Holben, occupying the chair. It was decided to promote an agitation in an endeavour to induce the Palmerston North Borough Council to alter its decision not to allow the parking of cars head into the footpath. The question of diverting traffic from the Levin-Shannon route and vice versa while bitumen paving was in progress, came up for discussion. It was decided that no recommendation could be made in this direction on account of the very rough state of the road in places from Palmerston North on the Foxton route. It was decided to get a design for next year’s wind-screen badge, so that there will not be any delay in this respect. Correspondence was received from the Hastings Borough Council, the Canterbury A. and P. Association and South Taranaki Automobile Association in reference to camping grounds. The lastnamed stated that on further inquiry it was found that a member of that association who had complained about the charge for camping on the Palmerston North Esplanade had not paid ss. per night, but had been told that that was the charge. In this connection the secretary reported that he had made close inquiry, but could not dicosver that any charge whatever had been made. The question of official garages was discussed, but was left over until next meeting, further inquiries in the matter to be made in the meantime.
