ANNUAL MEETING.

Palmerston North, February 25.

The annual meeting of the Palmerston North Amateur Orchestral Society was held to-night, Mr. J. W. Rutherfurd being chairman. The annual report stated that the statement of accounts for the year ended January 31, 1929, showed the society still had the balance on the right side. Receipts from all sources amounted to £221 2s. 9d., three concerts having been presented to the subscribers. Expenses were on a par with previous years. The society continued to hold a high place in the musical life of the town, and the concerts were always well-patronised. Although an increase in the rate of subscription had been suggested, the society did not desire to accumulate any large funds. During the last few years little had been made owing to the extra cost of producing concerts. There was need, however, that new music should be purchased, which could not be done unless funds were drawn upon. It would be better stated the report, if out of each year’s surplus new music should be purchased. The committee expressed deep, appreciation of the enthusiasm of playing members who had made the concerts possible, and looked forward to the future with confidence. , A credit balance of £146 3s. was shown on the balance-sheet. The election of officers for the ensuing vear resulted as follows: —President, Mr. J. W. Rutherfurd; vice-nresidents. Mr. P. Larcomb, A. J. Graham and L. Mowlem; honorary leader. Mrs. K.. b. Law; pianist. Miss G. Seifert; librarian. Mr. A. Wylie; bon. auditor, Mr. R. Davis; secretary mid treasurer. Mr. Jr Swallow; committee. Messrs. W. 1. Penny, A. Andrews, J. Carter. The appointment of an honorary conductor was left in the hands of the incoming committee.
