MANAWATU WHIPPET CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING.

Dominion Special Service.

Palmerston North, February 25.

The first annual meeting of the Manawatu Whippet Club was held to-night, Mr. H. Whitehead being chairman. “There is no doubt that whippet racing has come to stay, and, judging by the keen interest shown by the enthusiasts, Mr. Johns may well feel proud to be called the father of whippet racing jp New Zealand,” stated the annual report, in placing on record the club's gratitude to Mr. J. B. B. Johns, president of the New Zealand Whippet Racing Association, for help and advice on whippets, and tlie administration of the club. During the year the membership had grown, and the number of dogs had increased to over 30. Naturally, with the beginning of a club, a considerable amount of expense had te be involved, and the club was to be congratulated upon coming through the first year of its existence with a credit balance. and equipment free of debt. The report extended thanks to various organisations for the presentation of trophies, and to the various officials for their work throughout the season.

The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £B4 2s. The election of officers resulted as follows :—Patron, Mr. A. J. Graham; president, Mr. F. Cousins: vice-presidents, Messrs. C. H. Whitehead, W.
