OBITUARY
MR. FRANCIS HOLMES The death occurred yesterday of Mr. Francis Holmes,' of Kelburn, governing-director of the well-known firm of -Messrs. Francis Holmes, Ltd., cement;' and general building merchants.' '
Born in Auckland on July 15, 1864, the late Mr. Holmes was educated at the Auckland Grammar School. His studies completed he joined the office staff'.of the Union Steam Ship Co. at Dunedin, and in 1898 was transferred to Wellington as head accountant. In 1904 the late Mr. Holmes left the service of the Union Company to enter into business, in partnership, with the. firm of Messrs, Riley and Holmes. The partnership was dissolved in 1909, and the firm of Francis Holmes was founded. A few years ago this, business was turned into a limited liability company, with the late Mr. Holmes as governing-director. Mr. Holmes married Annie (a daughter of the late Mr. James Speight, of Dunedin), who predeceased him about three years ago. He is survived by one son, Mr. F. C. Holmes, managing-director of Messrs. Francis Holmes, Ltd., and the Misses Christy and Mollie Holmes. A younger son, Mr. W. Holiness was killed in France in 1916.
Arrangements are being made for the funeral to leave deceased’s late residence at 9.30 a.m. to-morrow.
