ALLEGED THEFT OF £986
J. B. BATCHELOR CHARGED ■ Dominion Special Service. Christchurch, February 13. In the Magistrate’s Court, John Black Batchelor, solicitor, of Christchurch, was charged before Mr. H. P .Lawry, S.M., with stealing on July 9 last £986, the property of Leonard Percival Voice. Batchelor was not represented by counsel. At the request of Chief-Detective Carroll, accused was remanded until February 21. “I ask for bail,” said accused. “I object to bail,” said the chiefdetective. “We have been chasing this man for six months.” “Bail is not allowed,” said the Magistrate. Batchelor, who was recently brought by the Maunganui back from Australia, had arrived at Lyttelton by the ferry steamer from Wellington under police escort this morning.
