ACROSS THE HARBOUR

R. T. WEBSTER’S SWIM ATTEMPT TO BE MADE TO-MORROW If favoured with reasonably good conditions, R. J. Webster, the well-known Auckland swimmer, is confident that his attempt to-morrow to cross the har* hour from Wellington to Day’s Bay will succeed. Considerable interest attaches to this effort, since the result will throw some light on the swimmer’s chances of crossing Cook Strait—-a venture to be undertaken later. Webster will dive off _ the deck of the Eastbourne Ferry Service s Muritai at Wellington at 10.30 a.ma and he expects to arrive at Day’s Bay early in the afternoon. Special arrangements have .been made

by the Eastbourne Ferry Service for all the ferry boats leaving Wellington to follow the swimmer for a portion of the journey, and every passenger on board will be given ample opportunity of witnessing him in action in the harbour. A special boat will leave Day’s Bay at 1.30 p.m. and Rona Bay at 1.40 p.m. for the purpose of going out to meet the swimmer and escorting him into Day’s Bay; The boat is put on to give motorists, bus passengers, and residents of Eastbourne, Day’s Bay, Petone, and the adjoining bays an equal opportunity with others of seeing Webster in his best form. ’

Bands have been arranged to play on the. boats for the day for the entertainment of the public. Buses will leave the library to suit the anticipated rush of visitors, who are offered a round trip under ideal conditions—bus out and boat home. The beautiful harbour view and scenic bush are unequalled, as are the tennis courts, picnic grounds, and miles of sandy beach available at Day’s and Rona Bay.
