LIVE STOCK SALES feilding ram fair HIGH PRICES SECURED. Dominion Special Service. Feilding, February 8. Both flock Romney and Southdown ramg offered at the fair held in Feilding yesterday and to-day realised high prices, the demand being better for flocks than for Btuds. The sheep offered were In excellent condition, and bidding for supplies was spirited throughout the sale. The top price of 29gns. for a flock Romney was obtained by Mr. D. P. Buchanan, of Cunninghams, and the next highest was 28gns. 'obtained by Mr. A. L. Wheeler, Marton, who also sold another ram for 21gns. Thirty-two guineas was the. top price for stud Romneys, and this was paid by Mr. J. H., McLean, of Marton, for a ram offered by Mr. W. H. Gibson, of Kiwitea. The average price for Flockt animals was In the vicinity of lOgns. ■ For flock Southdowns there was also great demand, and the average price would ba about lOgns. to llgns. The highest price of the sale went to Ellis Bros. (Bulls), on whose account two stud Southdowns were sold for 60gns. and 44gns. respectively. The prices paid throughout the sale were quite In line with recent reports that rams were going to be dear this season, and an idea of the firmness of the demand Is found in the fact that except In the case of stud Southdowns there were practically no passings. AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT.

Messrs. Abraham and Williams Ltd. report that there was a record attendance of buyers at the annual ram-fair held on the Feilding showgrounds on Thursday. The sale of flock Romney rams was one of the best that has been held In any part of Ahe Dominion. Competition was particularly keen, and the brisk bidding was sustained right up to the end of the sale. Single flock rams sold without a transfer realised up to 28 and 29 guineas, and pens of 3 and 4 rams up to 15 guineas. The rams were in excellent condition, but owing to the large number of rams that have been sold forward this year, probably the quality was not aa high ns usual. Buyers, however, realised that rams are now In short supply, and, as Hawke's Bay and the King Country were both represented by a strong buying bench, local farmers had plenty of competition. ■Abraham and Williams offered 36 per cent, of the flock rams yarded, and gold practically all under the hammer at an average price, of 10} guineas. . Stud rams yarded were not of a particularly high class, and as the great majority of breeders bad filled their requirements at the January sale, competition was rather restricted.
