REPAIRS EFFECTED TO ROTORUA

VOYAGE RESUMED The New Zealand Shipping Company’s Rotorua, which developed a leak in the packing in the stern gland oof the propeller shaft when about 180 miles out from New Zealand, arrived back in Wellington at. 7.35 a.m. on Saturday, in order that repairs might be executed. She berthed at the Railway Wharf, where a diver, who was in readiness, descended and assisted the engineers to remove the gland from the stern tube. The work was completed at 11.30 a.m.. and the Rotorua resumed her interrupted voyage to London at 1.30 p.m. On her last visit to England the packing in the steam glands of both propellers was removed, and the cause of the undue wear is not known. Although a leaking gland is not uncommon, it is the first time the Rotorua has experienced trouble in this respect.
