Lady Beatrix Wilkinson, who has for a hobby the cutting of jig-saw puzzles, considers that she has made over five thousand of them since she started in 1914. In a space of two months she cut 330. She works witli a treadle fret-saw. using whatever pictures she can obtain from friends. It is very fine and intricate work, and to cut 600 pieces in an hour and a half is good going, especially as the object is to make the puzzles as difficult as possible. At a recent sale Lady Beatrix estimated that she made £lOO from her puzzles for the Waifs and Strays Fund.

It has been reported that Mrs. Cressy Mareks, who did the journey from the Cape to Cairo unaccompanied except by native servants, and on foot, is contemplating a further trip in the English spring.
