SWIMMING
Fine weather is all that is required to make, the centre championship carnival at Te Aro baths this afternoon a decided success. Good entries have been received for all events and all classes of events will be staged. Chief interest will be centred in the 109 yards men's championship, for which a fine field has entered. W. Cameron is sprinting in great style at present, and will put up a great effort to gain the honour, but will meet with stern opposition from C. Clarldge, Lindsay, Blakeley, and others, all of whom can move fast over the distance. With the provision ot rope lanes for each competitor conditions will be equally fair for all, and it is expected that record figures will be hoisted for the race. The Olympic swimmer, D. P. Lindsay, will lie formidable in the quarter-miie championship, but again there will be Claridge, Blakeley, Rix-Trott and Pelham to dispute the issue, and this event should be well worth seeing. The diving championship is a new event for local divers, and is sure to be one of tlie tit-bits of the afternoon. Trial races, inter-club events, and water-polo make up the programme, which will commence at 2.30 p.m. Doors will be open at 2 p.m.
