The Minister of Lands (Hon. G. W. Forbes) returned to Wellington from tlie South yesterday. The Minister of Education (Hou. 11. Atmore) left last night for Nelson. He will return to Wellington on Sunday. Dr. R. Mitchell Mackay, chief medical referee for the Workers’ Compensation Act under the Government of New South Wales, will return to Sydney by the Ulimaroa to-day. Mr. J. L. Stout. S.M.. of Palmerston North, is visiting Wellington. Dr. W. 11. Johnston, of Wellington, has left for a motor tour of the North Island. At last night’s meeting of the Hutt River Board Mr. W. T. Strand was reelected chairman for the ensuing year. Mr. C. E. Joy. of Brooklyn, commis-sioned-writer attached to the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy, has been promoted to the position of pay-master-lieutenant. Dr. C. Chilton and Dr.* L. Cockayne, F.R.S.. have been appointed members of the Board of Governors of the New Zealand Institute. Mr. 11. E. Pacey, managing director of the Glaxo Manufacturing Company, left by the Rotorua yesterday on a visit to England. He expects to return in July. Sir Robert Stout is at present in Dunedin and is enjoying a holiday at St. Clair. Chief-Detective R. P. Ward, of Wellington, is at present on a visit to Auckland. Mr. Justice Herdman and Mi's. Herdman have returned to Auckland from Wellington after their world tour. Mr. J. Coyle, late secretary to the Wellington Hospital Board, now secretary and superintendent of the Newcastle Hospital Board, leaves by the Ulimaroa to-day for Sydney after three ' weeks’ holiday in Wellington. Mr. Frederick de Malmanche. of the Charles Haines Advertising Agency, Limited, who has been acting as manager of the firm's Dunedin branch and latterly the Christchurch branch, has now returned to Wellington and has resumed duties at headquarters. Sir James Gunson, who retired from commercial life in 1916 upon the sale of the business of W. Gunson and Company to Wright, Stephenson, and Company, Ltd., has decided to resume an active business career, states a Dominion” Special Service message fiom Auckland. Sir James Gunson has acquired a controlling interest in the business of Robertson Bros. (Auckland), Ltd., of which he will become governing director. Mr. James Robertson, who for 40 years has been directing its affairs, will continue Ins association with the company. Mr. J. C. Spedding has disposed of ms interest in the business.
