WELLINGTON CENTRE TOURNEY RAIN AGAIN PREVENTS PLAY DOMINION TOURNEY: THE PAIRS DRAW In cloudy weather, which occasionally threatened to develop into misty rain, the Wellington Centre’s annual tournament was advanced to the semi-final games on Monday, Post-section play was commenced at 9 a.m., and three rounds of 25 heads weje played during the day, reducing the rinks to four. The result was :— First Round. Hale (Island Bay) beat Watts (H--taitai), 26—21. Duncan (Wellington) beat Young (Hutt), 2.6—12. Cooper (Karori) beat Gardner (Kelburn), 20—19. HUTT VALLEY TOURNEY SECTION PLAY BEGUN ' In spite of rather showery weather, the first and second rounds of the Hutt Valley bowling tournament were played on the Hutt Central and Petone greens on Monday. Section play was to have been continued yesterday on all grounds and post-section play at the Central green to-day, but owing to the adverse conditions rendering games scheduled for yesterday impossible, these will (weather permitting) be played to-day instead. The post-section play will be got off at a later date. Following are Monday’s results:— FIRST ROUND. The final stages of the South Canterbury Bowling Centre's Christmas tournament were reached to-day. The weather during the tournament has been very broken, the games thus being prolonged. The South Canterbury rinks was won by Park, a local rink, who defeated Timaru by one on an extra head. The play •was of‘a high standard throughout. The South Canterbury pairs was won by Efford and Morgan (Edgeware), who beat Winnington and Lowry (West End) by two on the last head. “A HAPPY NEW YEAR” GREETING FROM BOWLERS AT SEA. Y'esterdav morning Mr. S. M. Stone, president of the Dominion Bowling Association, received a radio message from Mr. John Scott, vice-president of the N.S.W. Bowling Association, who is journeying to Wellington by the Marama with a big team of Australian bowlers, Kvishing all New Zealand- bowlers the sappiest of New Years. The message . was replied to on behalf of the New Zealand bowlers by Mr. Stone.
