ADVANCED FURTHER STEP MANCHURIA COMES UNDER NATIONALIST FLAG NEW TREATIES WITH FOREIGN POWERS (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Australian Press Association.) Shanghai, December 30. The unification of China was advanced a further step yesterday, reports from Manchuria announcing the widespread hoisting throughout the province of the Nationalist flag, of a white sun on a blue background, simultaneously on all Government and public buildings. Marshal Chang-hsueh Liang, son of the assassinated former dictator Chang Tso-lin, is sending delegates to attend Nanking conferences to discuss the future administration of Manchuria. The Nanking Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces that twelve treaties between China and foreign Powers have been signed since July, namely, with America, Belgium, Germany, Norway, Denmark, Italy, Holland, France, Britain, Portugal, Sweden, and Spain. DAMAGES FOR NANKING OUTRAGES (Rec. January 1, 5.5 p.m.) Shanghai, December 31. The investigations into the damage inflicted on Britons , and Americans in the Nankin outrages last year have been completed. It is reported that Britain’s share will amount to £200,000. America’s is approximately £40,000. BRITISH INSPECTOR OF CUSTOMS RESIGNS (Rec. January 1, 5.5 p.m.) Shanghai, December 31. The resignation, is reported of Mr. Edwardes, British Inspector-General of Chinese Maritime Customs, against whom an agitation recently was rife in certain Nationalist circles in consequence of Mr. Edwardes’s firm stand against improper interference with the national revenue of which he is custodian. The resignation was handed this morning to Soong, Minister of Finance in the Nationalist Government.
