TO-DAY’S WEATHER FORECAST.
Meteorological Office, Wellington, January 1, 4 p.m. A cyclone developed early this morning east of Cook Strait. The front of an anti-cyclone covering the Tasman Sea is approaching the northern districts, its centre following a northern course. Moderate to strong southerly winds, squally at times on the East Coast south from Cook Strait, shortly veering to westerly and northerly south of New Plymouth and Napier. Rather rough south of Castle--1 point and on the West Coast of the North Island; elsewhere moderate. Moderate to strong south-westerly, veering to north-westerly, wind in the eastern Tasman Sea, with moderate to rather rough seas. Weather changeable and showery generally, with some heavy falls at places on the East Coast between East Cape and Akaroa and in the Cook Strait area, but conditions improving soon in the East Coast districts. Cool night temperatures, but becoming warmer to-morrow.
