Taihape, December IS. The first annual meeting of- the Girl Guide movement was held yesterday The balance-sheet showed a credit of £26. The report showed the membership. including all ranks, to be <o. Officials for the ensuing year were elected as follows: —President, Mrs. A. Beale; vice-president, Mrs. J. E. Hamid; I committee Mesdames MacCalluni, Emerson, Little Neagle. and O’Neill; secretary, Miss J. Hamill. Appreciative reference was made of the work of the District Commissioner, Mrs. L. Hill, now of Dannevirke. . The Chambers of Commerce, at a meeting last evening, had considerable discussion about the Road Transport Companies operating between Taihape and Wanganui. Members were of the opinion that due to the large pay-out in wages to railway employees, money which is spent in the town, local merchants should be under moral obligations to import goods by rail, and not utilise the road competitor. A deputation was appointed to interview the local stationmaster in connection with freight matMr A. L Johnston, of Mercer, has taken' over the Taihape station, vice Mr. I’. Garlick, Wellington, .who was unable to accept the position. . Mr. W. Crawford. Napier, has been appointed loco-forertian, taking the place of Mr. G. J. Bryce, transferred to C Mr U and C Mrs. A. O. P. Batley, Moawhango, -are on a short visit to Auckland. In a bowling match at Raetihi over the week-end, two rinks from the Taihape Club were successful. m regaining the Ruapehu Junior Banner by the small margin of one point, the aggregate scor being 41 —40.
