AVIATION COMPASS
CUSTOMS OBJECTION TO ALCOHOLIC FILLING
(Australian Press Association.) (Rec. December 20, 7.30 p.m.)
Washington, December 19.
Mrs. Lancaster on arriving here today for an air tour of the United States carried with her a special aviation compass used by her husband on his Australian flight and which he-was planning to use here but the-compass is filled with four ounces .of pure alcohol, and the Customs officials insisted that it must be drained, otherwise it would be a violation of the prohibition law. Captain’ Lancaster after appealing to many officials that the draining of the compass would completely upset the calibration- estimate was finally permitted to carry it away intact.
