When Lord Birkenhead left for Sandringham to deliver up to the king his seals of office as Secretary for India, he found that he could not find them. Although he had occupied that position for four years, he had not used them and while he was on his way to tell his inler th-’ he had lost the “Pestiferous lumps of metal” they were found locked away in an obscure corner of his house, and a footman who was despatched post haste arrived at the castle just in time.
